Can You Alter My Jeans?
Of course, but… (and no, not your butt)
Like all alterations work there are limits, some clothes are made to me altered and tailored; dress pants, suit jackets and some dresses and skirts. However there are many ready-to-wear garments that are not made to be altered, this includes jeans.
With your jeans I can easily:
-shorten the leg length to suit your style
-taper the legs if you’d like a slimmer fit
-add wedges for a boot cut or flared style.
-replace buttons and zips if yours have failed.
These are standard jobs so I have standard prices and turnaround times.
Now, here comes the but!
But, there are limitations to the amount of alteration I can do to the waistband, hip and seat areas of jeans because of the way they are assembled, the stitches that are used and pockets.
I can take a total of around 8cm out of the waistband to help them fit your waist. I do this by removing wedges of denim and adding a patch over the top. These patches can be denim (I may have a denim close to your jeans) or they can be contrasting fabric to make a feature out of them. I can take in the outer leg seams as high as the pocket to bring the thighs in but again, only a few centimeters each side. Jeans can only be made bigger by a few centimetres in total and this has to be done with pieces of extra fabric.
If you have a favourite pair of jeans that you love but are a bit ‘passed it’ then book in for a Sip & Sew - Jeans Transformation to upcycle your old jeans into a skirt, bag or apron.
