What You’ll Learn
Not Sew Scary is all about learning the basic skills and good sewing habits you’ll need to keep having a go after the class.
Sewing Machine Basics
Find out what a sewing machine actually does and get your head around the basics of how it works.
Starting & Finishing Your Stitches
Learn how to start and finish a line of stitching, so your sewing stays where it’s meant to.
Following Fabric Edges
Practise sewing straight and following the edge of your fabric without wandering off course.
Curves & Corners
Learn how to guide your fabric around curves and tackle corners with more control.
Then it’s time to put those skills to work on your class project. Pete will guide you along the way, so by the end you’ll have a finished project, a better understanding of your way around a sewing machine and the confidence to keep sewing for yourself.
What You’ll Make
Everyone works on the same project during the class, with a different project each month. Your fabric pieces are pre-cut and ready to go, with different colours and styles to choose from so you can make it your own.
Tote Bag
Turn remnant fabric into a tote bag, finished with your own personal flourishes and quality cotton webbing for the handles.
Cushion Cover
Make a simple cushion cover using corduroy fabric, with a range of colours and styling to choose from.
Apron
Give old tablecloths a new life by turning them into an apron, with different colours and embellishments available.
You’ll work through the project with Pete and take your finished creation home at the end of the class. Then comes the good bit: “Thanks, I made it myself.”
