Can you make my pants shorter? What about my dress?
Absolutely! That is the thing that I do best and most often.
It is very common for Ready To Wear (RTW) clothing to be the wrong size for you. There is nothing wrong with you but everything wrong with the clothes.
Fashion designers work on ‘fit models’, this doesn’t mean they are fit people, it means that the designers make clothes to fit them. Each clothing company chooses a different fit model to suit the market they are targeting. For example, Rip Curl will have a very different fit model to Suzanne Grae. When you shop look for clothes that suit your particular size, shape and style, this will reduce the amount of alteration that is required.
It is easy to make clothes shorter in the leg. I simply mark where you would like the pants or dress to end and get about doing the work. I am happy to offer my opinion on how long your pants should be but remember that it is just that, my opinion. If you have other ideas (or someone else has ideas for you?!?!) I am happy to make your garment whatever length you decide.
As for making garments longer, this is much more difficult as very few RTW garments are made with extra fabric to allow them to be made longer. There is a chance that we can squeeze a couple of centimetres out of the hem by adding a new seam allowance of a different fabric. This will not be visible.
The other option for making a garment longer is to embrace the Japanese principle of Wabi-sabi and add some flare or colour to your garment.
Basically, much is possible and I relish the chance to chat with you about what you need to do and how we might be able to achieve it.
